doing a cooning and they cought a coon. I got a card the last day of school and it had a
bouquet of flowers on it. When you write to Aunti Wheeler, you tell her that I was very
glad of the ribbon. I have had my hair cut off, Uncle Amblres cut it off. What kind of
onion's did you sow this year? I tried to think and I could not. Tell Frank and Elmer that
I will send them a picture. Tell Martha to write to me. I love to live at Aunt Laurie's.
There was a little girl out here that died with the scarlet fever a few days ago. She was
one of the France Scholars and her name was Cora. Now you must write me. From your
daughter, Elsie Felton who is doing grandmer work Give my love to her and the boys.

455. Obituary. Minerva Gardner was
born in Watertown, Jefferson Co. N.Y. on the 30th day of April, 1807, and died in Paw Paw
township, DeKalb county, Illinois, on the 12th day of August, 1893. Aged 86 years, 3
months and 13 days.
She was united in marriage to Narcis LaPorte at Alexandria, Jefferson county, N.Y. in 1827.
She came from her native state in 1837 and settled near Sugar Grove, Ills. After a residence there of eight years, she moved to DeKalb county and settled in Paw Paw township, and for forty-eight consecutive years continued to reside in the same township.
The deceased was the mother of eleven children, three sons (one of whom is Alonzo LaPorte of Paw Paw) and eight daughters. The mother was spared to see them all grow to maturity, excepting one which died in infancy. Three daughters have preceeded their mother through the portals of death. One at the age of 16 years and the other two were mothers.
The father and husband departed this life in June 1883, since which times she has lived with her daughter Mrs. Henry Foiles, who has spared no pains or trouble to make it comfortable and homelike for mother. Her efforts were appreciated and the deceased was fond of expressing her gratitude to her friends, for the daughter's kind and patient attention.
Mrs. LaPorte was very much attached to her children. In their behalf she thought, planned and toiled. Her own interests were made subservient to the interests of her children. In return the children were fondly attached to mother and now the memory of her is blessed. During the last year of health failed quite rapidly. This she seemed to realize herself and began to fear, as she was growing blind, that she might become a burden to her friends. She prayed to be taken home from the ills and infirmaties that flesh is heir to. A few days ago she fell from a porch which hastened her death and brought about the end for which she sometimes longed.
She experienced religion in 1822 under the preaching of a Presbyterian minister. This religion has ever since been to her a comfort and a solace, helping her to bear the cares and burdens of life, and looking beyond this world to another of blessed tranquility.
The funeral services were held at the residence of Henry Foiles, south of Shabbona
Grove, Sunday afternoon, August 13, 1893, and was largely attended. Rev. B.A. Dickens
officiated. The remains were interred at the LaPorte (Ross Grove Cemetery) cemetery. A
Card. We wish to express our thanks to the kind friends and neighbors for their assistance
in the time of our affliction and in the care of our loving mother and also to the W.C.
T.U. for those lovely flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Foiles, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Kriger, daughters
of deceased.
